For this painting I chose to focus on the twisting stems and buds of the carnation bouquet before the flowers bloomed. I was thinking about how much we grew as people within the relationship and how much our lives became entangled through our shared experiences. But I also wanted to think about how much growth happened because the relationship ended, and how that pink petal shows the opportunities left still to come.

At first I wasn’t sure about how I wanted this painting to look, but I tried to keep it quite loose and unrefined whilst still having a bit of drama with the super dark contrasting shadows.
