Look At Me.
My current project, "Look At Me", is a series of mixed media artworks made to comment on the sexualisation of young women and bodily autonomy. This new work contextualises my "Living In Flesh" project and is an ongoing series.
"Dancing Queen" (2023) Acrylic on Canvas
This piece started the project, I wanted to look at the natural form of the figure and record its movements. The figures have no faces, no identity, and subject to the objectification of others. Whether the "Queen" feels empowered or beautiful is irrelevant, the audience will make their own assumptions about her regardless.
Look At Me. Lino Prints
I created a print series on thin banana paper, printed in black ink. I wanted to focus on the contradictions of empowerment, the objectification and sexualisation of young women, and the act of seeing and being seen.
Look At Me. Art Writing Piece
I then wrote an accompaniment for the lino prints.
Look At Me Paintings
I wanted to keep working in black and white, and focus on raw images. The subject is sexualised and contained in a box, It isn't till the viewer is realised that the you are confronted by the subject. What right do you have to keep her, hold her her, and objectify her?
